The Court Rejected the Investigative Body’s Motion to Detain Our Client Accused of Particularly Large-Scale Tax Evasion

On April 24, 2025, the Criminal Court of General Jurisdiction of First Instance of Yerevan, Republic of Armenia, presided over by Judge Tatevik Muradyan, considered the investigative body’s motion to apply detention as a preventive measure against our client V.H., who is accused of committing a crime under Article 290, Part 3, Clause 2 of the RA Criminal Code. The Court rejected the motion and applied alternative preventive measures.

The hearing lasted several hours, during which the Court thoroughly examined the arguments of both the prosecution and defense, delivering high-quality and exemplary justice. We express our gratitude to Judge T. Muradyan for this.

We also thank investigator Sargis Arakelyan for demonstrating legal integrity in court, for his professional and human qualities, and for the persistence he showed in defending his motion.

In this case, we are also preparing to challenge the legality of the flawed practice whereby a person is accused on the basis of a document titled “Certificate on Preliminary Calculation,” prepared by officers of the RA State Revenue Committee, as well as the practice by SRC officers of “seizing” computers and documents from economic operators.
We will provide additional information on the results of the appeal in due course.
